Wi-Fi Support

Wi-Fi issues are frustrating, especially when you don’t know how to fix them. Townsville Internet specialises in Wi-Fi troubleshooting, improvement & optimisation.

Between troubleshooting, modem relocations, access points & point-to-point systems, there aren’t many home or business Wi-Fi problems we can’t solve.

Troubleshooting

If you’re experiencing issues and need support, call us on 1300 878 468 & we'll try our best to help you over the phone.

If solving the issue over the phone isn’t possible, we'll organise for one of our local technicians to come to you. Our call out fee for this is $220 for the first hour and $165 for every hour thereafter (prices are inclusive of GST). If you’re on one of our internet plans, you’ll receive 50% off the stated prices.

Modem Relocation

Where your modem lives has a bigger impact on your Wi-Fi than most people realise. The location of the NBN box often determines your modem location for FTTP connections. For FTTN connections, the location of an available socket determines your modem location. If your modem is in a corner of your house or surrounded by concrete walls, the signal strength can be limited.

Moving your modem from the garage to a more central location, such as the kitchen or living room is one of the most effective ways to improve performance and coverage throughout your home. We handle the cable run and wall socket installation so there are no cables running across the floor.

Access Points

If you're paying for fast internet, but some rooms across the house are barely getting signal, your internet might not be slow, your Wi-Fi simply isn't reaching where you need it to.

This is one of the most common issues we see, and it affects all kinds of properties:

  • Large homes where the modem is tucked away in one corner of the house

  • Older buildings with thick brick or concrete walls that weaken the signal

  • Multi-storey homes where coverage on the second floor is inconsistent

  • Businesses with open floor plans or multiple rooms that all need reliable connectivity

  • And properties where you want internet in a secondary building

If any of that sounds familiar, an access point is likely the fix.

Unlike boosters & range extenders, access points are a wired extension of your modem. They provide an extra connection point for your devices if they’re too far away from the modem. They can be wall or ceiling mounted, inside or outside, and blend into the background once installed.

We supply and install the latest Ubiquiti access points, professionally configured and set up to work seamlessly with your existing network. Our standard range includes the U6+, U7 Pro, and U7 Pro Max, covering everything from everyday home use through to high-performance setups with a large number of devices. For more specific requirements, we also offer the U7 Outdoor for external installations and the U7 In-Wall for a cleaner finish inside the home.

Point-to-Point Connections

If you've got internet in the house, but want it at a secondary building like a shed, workshop, or granny flat, running a cable underground is possible but not always practical. At the same time, a standard Wi-Fi signal from the house isn't going to be reliable at that distance.

This is where we’d recommend a point-to-point wireless connection. Our point-to-point connections focus radio frequency into a precise beam, acting as a link between two fixed points, effectively creates a wireless cable between the two locations. It's a popular solution for rural and semi-rural properties, properties with a secondary building and businesses with separate buildings on the same site.

We install one unit at each end, this creates a dedicated wireless link between two locations. With a link range of over 10 kilometres and throughput of 450+ Mbps, they deliver speeds comparable to a wired connection and are well suited to both residential properties and businesses that need reliable connectivity across multiple buildings.

A clear line of sight between the two points is required for installation. If you're unsure whether your property is suitable, give us a call on 1300 878 468.
